Step 1- Hosting and Setup
You would be intrigued by the fact, why should I pay when WordPress is free in wordpress.com? The simple answer is, the free hosting gives a subdomain of wordpress.com and not a primary domain. Also, the features of unpaid WordPress hosting is limited features. You can’t add premium themes and plugins. Actually, WordPress itself is free. What’s not free is domain and hosting. Actually, WordPress itself is free. What’s not free is domain and hosting. Where can you get a primary domain like serverhow.com with hosting? There are many web hosting providers like GoDaddy, inter-server, 1and1, Bluehost and site ground. When it comes to hosting, there are three types. Shared hosting, VPS hosting, Cloud hosting and Dedicated Hosting. One is stronger than other in performance and is expensive than other.
The important point here is that going for any web hosting other than shared hosting when starting a new website is overkill. You can start with shared hosting. When your daily website traffic increases too much, you would need to upgrade to a better shared hosting plan, VPS hosting, cloud hosting or dedicated hosting. When this happens, hosting company will inform you usually. So you don’t have to worry about decreased website speed due to increased traffic.
Choosing a web hosting company might be difficult for you. So I recommend going for 1and1 hosting plans which first year pricing is only $12 with free domain name, free SSL certificate, Email addresses, 100 subdomains. This is a huge discount of 90%. This plan is ideal for beginners. Get your hosting from this link.
Once you buy hosting, go to app centre, and install WordPress using the 1click installer. If you use 1and1, it can be found in 1and1 app centre, choose a username, password and the domain you selected with the purchase during the installation. It will take few minutes for the process to be completed. Now go to SSL certificates in 1and1 control panel and install your free SSL certificate. Once it says complete, you will be able to post content on your website. But your WordPress website won’t look very cool to your users and may not even be indexed by google unless you install a good WordPress theme.
You can login to your WordPress admin panel using, yoururl.com/wp-admin
Step 2- Selecting a Good WordPress theme
The visual appearance of your WordPress blog is controlled by themes. So you will have to install a new WordPress theme to change the appearance. The default WordPress theme is not very cool for a website, you should consider installing a new theme. Some of these WordPress themes are free while others are paid. Mostly, only paid themes are good for a serious blogger who wants progress. Some well paid WordPress themes are sahifa, Newspaper7(we currently use) and newsmag. These themes cost $50 to $100. You can change your theme by going to your WordPress dashboard and clicking on Appearance » Themes. You can upload your bought theme using the upload button.
Once you upload the theme, You will be given the option to activate the theme, tada. You have successfully changed the appearance of the blog. Once you install the WordPress theme, you will be able to edit the theme from Appearance> Customise. Now changed the options like Site Title, Site Logo, Site Favicon etc. Some themes offer a theme panel which can edit the theme to a whole new level. If there is a theme panel, it can be found on WordPress controlpanel sidebar like this is the snapshot.
Step 3- Adding Additional Features To The WordPress
After setting up the theme, you may need to upload contact form, anti-spam, security and get SEO for your website, this can be done by using plugins. Please read our article on 7 Must have WordPress Plugins for Every WordPress site. WordPress Plugins are to add new functions to the website. To add a new plugin, go to plugins> Add new. There you can find thousands of plugins for WordPress site. However many premium WordPress plugins cannot be found here. To upload them, you have to buy them, upload them and activate it. However, unlike themes, when it comes to plugins, there is always a free alternative.
Step 4- Adding Important Pages to Menu
Step 5- Creating New Posts
You are finally in the last step and is ready to post. Now the question is how to post? To create a post, simply go to Posts>> Add New. Give The Post a title and start Writing.
